The Louisiana SPCA’s New Orleans Humane Law and Rescue partners with the City of New Orleans through a contract to provide the vital animal control services for Orleans Parish. Our Humane Law & Rescue team’s focus is to provide high quality, compassionate care for the animals we rescue and shelter, with a responsiveness to community needs; aligned with the funding allocated by the City each year. Currently, we provide field response 4 days a week and emergency response 24/7. Additional funding would allow for the expansion of services 7 days a week, increased response time for calls, as well as more proactive community programming.
Although we are contracted to provide these services in New Orleans only, our animal cruelty work is not limited by parish boundaries. For large scale cruelty cases our Humane Law & Rescue team are often called to assist national organizations with dog fighting busts, puppy mill raids and investigations. We are a founding member of the Canine CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) along with the ASPCA and UC Davis.
