Penelope’s Story With Us

Penelope is one of those special dogs that stole our hearts from the moment we laid eyes on her. 

Abandoned since possibly July of 2020, she had been fending for herself for quite some time when we intervened. What started as an a call from a concerned neighbor led our Humane Law & Rescue officers to find not only Penelope abandoned, but five other dogs. Penelope had somehow gotten out of the backyard and found a comfy couch cushion when our officers arrived, but she never once barked at us, which was a concerning.

Once Penelope and the five other dogs were rescued from the squalor they were living in, our officers brought them straight to our shelter clinic to be examined. What they found with Penelope is she was dehydrated, coughing, slightly malnourished, heartworm positive and heartbreakingly pregnant with a stillborn puppy. 

Despite the condition she was found in, Penelope remains such a happy and sweet dog. Because of supporters like you, Penelope was able to start a new chapter in her life. She now has a loving family to call her own and we couldn’t be happier for her!
